Truth is a matter of perception
~ [[Truth]], [[Perception]]
Reference: The Way of Integrity by Martha Beck
Many things can be true for a moment, but not for eternity. You might say, “I’m hungry (right now).” After you eat, that’s no longer true. The truth is a matter of perception.
What is true now might not always be true, but a lot of our suffering stems from believing things that are not true.
“What is true is already so. Owning up to it doesn’t make it worse. Not being open about it doesn’t make it go away. And because it’s true, it is what is there to be interacted with. Anything untrue isn’t there to be lived. People can stand what is true, for they are already enduring it.” — Eugene T. Gendlin

- The truth sets you free because it always tastes of freedom - the universe responds to what’s true, consistently. Not much remains true, so pay attention to what remains true and gets even more true over time.
- [[You don’t see things as they are—you see them as you are]] - what’s true depends on you. [[Confirmation Bias]] is a bitch, you’ll find what you’re looking for so consistently acknowledge your own ignorance.
- [[Social Comparison Theory]] - How we see others isn’t true. How many people do you admire who secretly hate their lives or envy yours?
- [[The grass is greener where it’s fertilized with bullshit]] - from the other side, your grass looks greener too. The grass is greener where you water it.
- [[Other people act as mirrors]] - We don’t see other people as they are, we project who we think they are onto them, just like the truth.
- [[Pain is inevitable, suffering is internal]] - Suffering stems from things we believe that are not true. If you want to better understand your suffering, see where it’s coming from and see if it’s absolutely true.
- [[Life is fullest where your feet are]] - Living in the moment is the only place you can absolutely know truth (my hand is on the table, my feet are on the ground, etc.)
- [[Cognitive Bias]] - our thoughts aren’t true, even when we believe they are.
- [[The As If Principle]] - sometimes you have to believe things that aren’t true to become someone who is.
